Up a Tree
Up a Tree
Nelson stood barefoot in the cool grass, his neck craned at an impossible angle. Above him leaves rustled and danced as the object of his interest moved through the branches. Dark clouds were approaching, and lightening had flashed just south of the ridge moments ago. He reached for a low branch, preparing to swing himself up.

The rough bark cut into the soft skin of his hands and feet. Why hadn't he grabbed his tennis shoes? Another peel of lightning lit the sky, chasing his object farther into the tree. He should've brought some tuna.
A rumble of thunder accompanied the next flash and the wind started to pick up. He swore under his breath and reached for the next branch. If he didn't hurry, it might become too late.
